european adventure: italy... padova & venice

may 6:

on our way out of florence we stopped at bologna.  bologna was more of a pit stop/ a nice half way point into padova.  we got lunch at a little cafe.  we went into this museum looking place... more just to pass the time.  it was closed because some famous artist was there.  everyone was taking pictures of him and following him around.  holly, stacy and i just sat on the couch.  then we got a dessert at another cafe.  it was this berry cake.  amazing!  we walked through a church in bologna then headed into padova.  we mainly just did chill things on this day.  we checked into our hostel.

and i think the first thing we did was got some gelato.

we found this gorgeous church.  i mean, just look at that color!!

then we found some parks and went through another cathedral/church.

these gardens were right outside of that church...

we ate at brek.  apparently its a chain restaurant over there.  then taylor and i realllly wanted gelato.  shocked??  i got raspberry, and i think it was one of the best gelato's that i have ever had.  delish.  then taylor and i wanted some crapes.  and, oh my gosh.  it was the best crape that i have ever eaten.  let me just explain.  so it was the cutest shop, the cutest lady, and just the best.  she makes them home made right in front of your eyes.  then she puts nutella on it, and strawberries.  then she folds it up, puts powdered sugar on it, puts more nutella on it, puts whipped cream on top of all of that.  then puts on even more nutella, then to top everything off she put on cute little sprinkles.  it was adorable.  and so good.

we wandered around... mainly because this town was quiet and there wasn't quite as much to do.  but that was so fun.  fun to just wander and explore.

^^i love that flag!^^

^^surprise, surprise.^^
stacy, taylor and i kept wandering.  i love them.  they are so fun and there was never any drama with us.  i mean, the most drama was if we couldn't find a gelato place or crapes that were stuffed with nutella.  that's about as dramatic as it got.. and you can see that since we ate one or the other every five seconds there was never any trouble.  food here is so so so so sooo good.

may 7:

this day was the venice day!!  we started off the morning by getting us some train tickets.  the train station was crazy.  and we almost missed our train.. but not really because they had the numbers and time messed up.  but how were the four of us supposed to know that?
^^this is the first view right off the train.^^

^^this girl was adorable.^^
we got off the train and headed towards st. marks.  basically there is no need for a map in venice because half of the streets is just water.

there are also signs on the sides of houses and such that lead you right in the direction of st. marks.

^^vanessa and i.^^

every which way you turn is gorgeous.

st. marks was beautiful.

while we were waiting in line i saw the four emperors, it was like right out of the art book.

there were gold mosaics and amazing art work inside.

^^john the baptist... you can tell its him by his clothes.^^
some of us went to the top where you can climb on the roof. if overlooked the sea and you could see more buildings and such.  we sat there and waited for a while.  we basically took a nap right on the roof of st. marks.  no big deal.

^^coolest clock ever!^^
after we had to go to the bathroom.  bathrooms and europe do not mix that well.  i feel like they hardly have any, and if they do they are so much money.  so instead we just found some artists and looked out at the islands...

we ate this delicious wrap thing, and watched these adorable children chase after birds in st.  marks plaza.

^^we happened upon this german reality tv show.  it was pretty intense.^^

after that we went on a gondola ride!! shut up.  i know.  it was eighty euros.  which equals about one hundred and five dollars.  and about eight cents to be exact.  pretty pricey.. but we just split the cost between six of us.  so it was more like thirteen ish euro a piece.   our gondola driver was kind of crazy.  he just talked on his cell phone the entire time.  man, that would take major talent to steer the boat and talk on your cellular device.  i mean, they have to go to school and such to become gondola drivers.  he was a gem though.

as we were riding down the main canal we were right next to an asain tour group.  one of the older gentleman in the group yelled over to us.  'where you from?'  stacy was the first to answer and she just said LA.  the grandpa got really excited and shouted back, 'OH!  i went to america, 1990 to 1992!!!'  his accent was so thick, and he was adorable.  the group that he was with started taking our pictures.  so i snapped one back.. because i found it so silly that they were taking ours.  hilarious.
^^the guy who asked the questions was the man on the right in the plaid.^^

also, the group behind us had a personal singer on their gondola.  he sounded so nice and we got some lovely accordion music as well.  venice is beautiful.  i could not get enough of the buildings and the moss growing up the side of the walls.

^^that was our driver.  babe.^^
the weather could not have been any better either.  after our gonadal a ride holly and i got split off from the group.  getting lost is my favorite part of the day.  every street is a fun new adventure.  holly and i sat on a dock for a couple of hours.

the famous venetian masks...

and we found a fun photo shoot!

we found some street performers as well.

they are always a treat.  then we got some more gelato.  which i think it was some of the best i ever had.  to die for.

we ate some pizza for dinner.

i was so sad to head into austria... then there would be a heck of a lot less pizza.  then we met back up with stacy and taylor and headed back to padova.  it was back to the hostel for us.  shower and off to bed.

  1. 3 things:

    1) every time i read your blog i am starving by the end.

    2) you say every gelato is the best you've ever had.

    3) is it stinky there? I've heard it smells like fish because of all the water. I'm dying to know if it's true.

    1. oh my, food is amazing.
also.... gelato makes me drooool just thinking about it.
and.. i don't think it smelled that bad. same with paris... like i've heard that too. i thought it was fine. like obviously if we were walking past the fish market then yeah, but just walking down normal streets was fine.
